A Bit of Everything Today

We had a bit of many different riding conditions today.  We started with saying goodbye to the rising sun at our Vero Beach ocean-side hotel.

We've been getting a nice early start every day.  Today we had a bonus of riding along a road for the first hour or so with trees on either side.  The bonus was shade.....  Not sure exactly what was behind the trees, but the map shows us very close to the ocean on one side and the Indian River on the other.  We saw signs for all manner of clubs - yacht clubs, country clubs, beach clubs, resorts, etc.  One can only imagine what decadence lay behind those trees.  As we rode a little further we also saw lots of parks - wildlife refuges, state parks and public parks.

Found a new boyfriend at one of parks - Melbourne Beach, I believe.  He is a little bit older.

His name is Juan Ponce de Leon and he discovered the fountain of youth, so I'm sure that age-thing will resolve itself.  Wait.......what?........ he didn't find actually find the fountain of youth??  Well, then, I suppose he's history.......

For a while we rode through a mixture of residential areas and rather busy roads.  Most of the busy roads had bike lanes, though, so no big deal other than the noise.  I found a street that looked like home, right down to the palm tree that is just like what we have in Alberta..... not!

We didn't have the big mansions today, but lots of communities with serene sounding names; probably advertised as retirement communities.

Near the end we had a beautiful 10km section on quiet Rockledge Road.  Lovely   large but not ostentatious homes on one side of the street and wharfs into the Indian River on the other.  One of my favourite sections yet.

We finished the ride with a rather busy and noisy 8-ish km ride along a busy to our hotel next to the interstate.  Sometimes it's hard to be picky with this many of us travelling together.

All-in-all, a lovely but hot day.  We started at about 20C and got to over 33C.  The humidity here is also something that I'm not used to yet.

Stats for the day:
102 km from Vero Beach FL to Cocoa FL.  Again - imperceptible ups and downs other than the bridges.  A bit of a headwind for the first time this ride.  Let's hope it doesn't become a habit!

  1. I like these pics! Especially the live oaks with the dripping moss. The beaches are alright too, I guess...

I agree that one picture with the palm tree sure looks like Calgary.. no mistaking it...

I may not be as faithful a correspondent the next week or so, Hot Docs is starting and we'll be bug-eyed watching movies. Still will try to tune into your blog, though.

Hope the heat and humidity tame down a bit for you!
