Day 1 Is In The Books

What a keen bunch of riders we are!  Everyone made it to the events in Fort Lauderdale yesterday - initial introductions and briefings from our leaders, fix-a-flat review, and a banquet with family and friends (for those who have them; I have none :( )  last evening.  Actually - a bunch of us from Southern Tier 2013 sat together (including three who were just there to see us off) and had lots of laughs.  All good fun.......

Breakfast this morning at 7AM, luggage weigh-in and group photo, and then we were off!  The ride was lovely.  It was primarily on SR A1A, which is about as close to the ocean as you can get.  Often it was on a narrow strip of land between the ocean and the intracoastal waterway. Lots of money down here!  About half the time there were condos or gated mansions built on the ocean-side and the rest of the time there were open ocean views.  We took a bit of an inland diversion through Palm Beach before returning to the ocean-front near Juno Beach.  We were never really away from civilization today - Fort Lauderdale Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Pompano Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boyton Beach, Ocean Ridge, South Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Juno Beach, and finally - spending the night in Jupiter.

The weather today was much better than expected.  Just a few spits of rain, and bright blue skies by the end.

Stats:  102 km, negligible up and down, temps started at 22C and topped out at about 28C.

Went for a walk and a swim after getting in.  Time for dinner now.  Chef Emily's first meal for WomanTours.  I have high hopes!

  1. Lovely pics, Sue! I see what you mean about the money...

I love the ocean views, especially the one with the boardwalk and overlook! Glad the rain held off for you. Hope tomorrow is nice -- sunny but not too hot...
