We were on a combination of State Roads (busier highways) and County Roads (generally less busy, especially fewer trucks) this morning. But - there were fewer trucks, better road conditions and more open views of mostly rural residential properties with just a bit of forest mixed in for old-times sake. We rode through lots of little burghs and crossed a few rivers.
Saw some heron-like birds in flight.
We were just inland from Myrtle Beach and everything just looked more properous. At mile 34 we crossed into North Carolina - yeah!
We were coming pretty close to the coast and lots more civilization as well as better roads. We even saw the return of lots of lawn maintenance trucks (reminiscent of Florida). Much better biking conditions.
Lots of golf courses. One with a viewing platform - lots of birds in flight and some folks claim to have seen alligators.
Enjoyed the rest of the ride into Shallotte. Saw some interesting sights along the way.
Didn't even mind the headwinds that apparently are compliments of tropical storm Anna. Not sure what she has in store for us the next few days.
Stats for the day:
83 km from Conway SC to Shallotte NC. Sunny/cloudy/rain bursts/repeat. Temps 18C to 28C. Intermittent strong headwinds. Climbed and lost about 1000 feet.
Nice to hear you happy to be in my state. We complain about roads and traffic, but apparently it's much better than SC. Hope Ana quiets down soon.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on entering yet another state!
